Captain Robert W. Miles "Take the Bull by the Horns" Endowed Scholarship
$1000 for one NJROTC senior who will be entering a two or four-year college or technical college.
The Captain Robert Miles Take the Bull by the Horns Scholarship will be created to recognize an outstanding senior Oak Harbor High School NJROTC student who will be entering a two/four-year college or vocational/technical college. This award honors Captain Robert W. Miles, USN Retired, who served as a Naval Aviator from 1954 – 1977 and Oak Harbor High School NJROTC Naval Science Instructor from 1977 – 1996.
● 2.5 GPA minimum
● CTE area of study
● Completed at least two (2) years of NJROTC by graduation
● Accepted to a two (2) or four (4) year college, university or vocational/technical college. A student accepting a college ROTC scholarship or admitted to a military service academy is not eligible.
● Participation in athletic and other activities
● Community involvement
● High School Transcript
● List of school activities, community service, honors, awards and work experience
● 500 word or less essay “How Will My Lifetime Goals Help Me Contribute to Society?”
● 3 letters of recommendation from people other than relatives, INCLUDING at least 1 letter of nomination from an OHHS teacher that addresses academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and contributions to the NJROTC program. Each letter must include the reference’s name, address and phone number.
